Austra Racing Sweep Up Westhill

Round two of the GTR 2006 series was an Austra Racing celebration with all four divisions being taken out by the series leading team at Westhill International.
The Austra Racing assault was lead by
Gizmo who was not the fastest driver in Division A, yet being extremely consistent in the FZR allowed him to push forward from third place to take the lead on lap nine from team mate Righteous who went off the track.
“Consistency won me the race and a fantastic setup,” said Gizmo.
Righteous definitely had the race pace under control and was one of the fastest cars in the event after comfortably securing pole position with only a couple of laps early into the qualifying session. Westhill International is well known by many drivers for not being very kind when a minor mistake occurs and Righteous was caught out early on and fell to seventh before climbing back up to second, only three seconds behind Gizmo with eight laps to go before another spin forced him to concede for the minor placing.
“I had a really good race but jitters got the better of me. I had the pace to win it but in the end I just couldn’t keep it as consistent as Gizmo. Pretty chuffed on getting an AR 1,2 and a clean sweep across all the divisions,” explained Righteous.

Premium Racing Team’s ReppohC had a conservative race to ensure he stayed on the track and remain consistent, although did set the fastest lap of the race. Southern Cross Racing’s Bugle ran as high as third in the XRR after starting tenth and eventually had to settle for a very credible fourth place.
Knappo made easy work of
Division B, dominating the procession by leading all 46 laps of the race and winning by an easy 17 seconds over Dan G in the XRR. OzBeer-Racing’s Sterling held onto a hard fought third place after battling the majority of the race with Schuey97.
In
Division C the race went right down to the wire with nneeooww and kwijibo swapping places many times over the course of the race, with the two completing the distance with a drag to the finish where slight panel rubbing was made with
nneeooww taking the honours. Tassie took third place where the FZR made the top six positions.
Blake was too good in
Division D driving the XRR to a comfortable 50-second lead over Olddog and Crankcase, both driving the faster FZR. Southern Cross Racing’s Cutter was the highest placed driver from any division to attack the 46 laps without making a pit stop and did this successfully in the FXR and finished fifth after starting tenth.
After two races the driver series points is currently: Gizmo (204), StanDaam (195), ReppohC (194), Cetram (191) & HRT Shaun (191).
The top five in the team series points are: Austra Racing (190), Premium Racing Team (176), Middle Pack Racing (169), Filthy Minds Racing (152) & OzBee-Racing (145).
Round three of the AAL’s GTR 2006 series is at Kyoto National on July 26.
