Austra Who?
Austra Racing's dominating form has come to an end with the return of Southern Cross Racing's Scottie who took the win aboard the slower XRR, however the series standings took a hit with leader Gizmo having a disastrous round and thus elevated Premium Racing Team's ReppohC and StanDaam into the top spot.After securing pole position and a mid race scare of dropping back to third place, Righteous brought his FZR home ahead of the SCR XRR brigade of Scottie and Bugle in Division A's opening race.
“Was really looking forward to coming back after PC issues and had a great time. The sprint race format was great to up the excitement and was surprised to come out with second in both races,” stated Scottie.
All did not work well for Gizmo who was leading the series going into the fourth round of the GTR2006 series and suffered problems with his steering wheel that left him unable to compete for the remainder of the night and ruining a promising chance of a possible series win.
In a close race two it was StanDaam who cruised to victory after a poor result in race one, which left him with a nice opportunity to pull away from the faster drivers due to the inaugural use of reverse grid racing in the AustralAsian League. In second once again was Scottie after an immaculate run from the back of the field to secure the round win in Division A and the XRR's first win in the premier field, team mate Bugle has been consistent all season and was rewarded with second place and now sits fourth overall.Division B saw pole man OzBee-Racing's Schmickle lead from start to finish in front of r8response and narrowly behind Viperosi who came from fifth in the FXR after returning to Wednesday night racing.
The reverse grid saw the FZR's reign return by taking out the top five positions, lead by Brads82, TassieDevil and Knappo. With two very mixed up results the top three on points all shared the same figure and a count back was used to determine the final order by the higher reverse grid race finishing position. In the end it was TassieDevil who now only has Division A to conquer, over Flappa and Schmickle.
In Division C race wins went to Apex and Pixelboy however the round win went to Pacifica Racing's Somebloke aboard the FXR after finishing fourth and second in the two races. Russell Brooker was relegated to second after finishing on the same points but behind Somebloke in race two. Down Under Racing's Apex was the fastest car all night on his way to taking third overall after finishing sixth in race two.After four terrific rounds of battle the top five drivers are: ReppohC (389.5), StanDaam (389.5), Righteous (388.5), Bugle (385) & Shaun (384).
The top five teams are: Austra Racing (379), Premium Racing Team (340), Middle Pack Racing (325), OzBee-Racing (284) & Filthy Minds Racing (250).
Round five of the AAL's GTR2006 series returns to its regular format at Blackwood GP Reverse on August 23.
