FZR Destroys GTR 2006 Opener

The Australasian League’s brand new
GTR 2006 series has finally kicked off with the completion of race one of the eight round series at Aston’s National Reverse configuration where the FZR was unstoppable across all four divisions.
In Division A it was hardly any surprise that Southern Cross Racing’s Chaz took out the line honours ahead of a six-car FZR brigade, however behind him in second place was Austra Racing’s Gizmo, who ultimately put in the drive of the race to earn his position after having to make two pit stops. Gizmo’s return to racing saw him start from sixth on the grid however realising after his planned one stop that he would be short on fuel before the finish, he pushed hard to match Chaz’s lap times and build enough of a buffer to keep third placed StanDaam at bay.

The quiet yet focused Chaz had this brief comment about the race, “Solid race, Sambo provided a great setup.”
The remainder of the field comprised of the other two GTR car options and were hardly a match for the FZR with Enforcer-J leading the way in the XRR in seventh and Shonky placing as the highest FXR in tenth after gaining eight positions.
“The car wasn’t perfect but when I realised I was going to have to stop a second time, I had no choice but to try something different and I adjusted my roll bars, fortunately I was able to match Chaz’s pace and keep second position,” explained Gizmo.
Austra Racing sealed the top two positions in Division B with Knappo and nneeooww leading home the OzBee-Racing duo of Sterling and Threeps. Knappo was so comfortable out front that he led all bar one lap of the 55-lap race.
The leaders home in the XRR and FXR were eMPee and Olddog respectively back in sixth and ninth position.

Division C was all but destined to be taken out by Austra Racing’s
plague except for the massive error of running out of fuel on the last lap which took him out of contention and thus handed the win over to
r8response.
Chensta and
Wild, also in the FZR rounded out the top three for the race.
With 63 entrants for round one, a fourth division was needed, while the laps may have been slower, the quality of racing was still the same with the top three FZR cars of Tassie, Durrie and Russell all sharing the exact same fastest lap time. In the end Durrie only held off Russell by 0.02 seconds.
The top five in the team series points are: Austra Racing (94), Middle Pack Racing (87.25), Filthy Minds (81.5), Premium Racing Team (81.25) and OzBee-Racing (76.5)
